How to use the file

  1. Open the folder

    Right-click the TranslucentTB tray icon and choose Advanced › Edit settings. That opens the current file; its folder is where the new one goes. For the Store, winget and App Installer versions the folder is: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\28017CharlesMilette.TranslucentTB_v826wp6bftszj\RoamingState For the portable version it is the folder that contains TranslucentTB.exe.

  2. Replace settings.json

    Save the downloaded file over the old settings.json, or paste the text into the open editor and save. Keep the name exactly settings.json.

  3. Done, no restart

    TranslucentTB watches the folder and reloads about 200 ms after the file changes. Only a change to language needs a restart of the app.

Questions

Is the preview exactly what Windows will show?

Close, not exact. The browser uses CSS blur and a grain texture to imitate acrylic, and a Gaussian blur of blur_radius ÷ 3 for the blur accent, which is the same formula TranslucentTB passes to Windows on the Windows 11 XAML taskbar. Windows' acrylic adds its own luminosity layer, so real acrylic usually looks a little lighter.

Why can't I change the color for Normal?

Normal tells TranslucentTB to give the taskbar back to Windows. Windows then draws its own default look, so the color and blur radius are not used.

Why does Opaque ignore my alpha?

TranslucentTB forces the alpha channel to 100% for the opaque accent. Use Clear if you want a see-through color.

Does the builder upload my settings or wallpaper?

No. Everything runs in this page. The last design you made is saved in your browser's local storage so it is still there when you come back; Reset clears it.

Which version of TranslucentTB is this for?

TranslucentTB 2026.2. The key names, defaults, allowed values and color format match its source code. Older 2023 and 2024 releases accept the same keys, except that blur_radius was added in 2024 and older versions ignore it.
