TranslucentTB alternatives, compared honestly
Several tools can make the Windows taskbar transparent, but they do very different jobs. Here is what each one changes, whether it still works on Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2, and when it beats TranslucentTB.

Short answer
What is the best alternative to TranslucentTB?
For full Windows 11 taskbar restyling, Windhawk with the Windows 11 Taskbar Styler mod: free, actively maintained, and it has transparent themes. For a Windows 10-style taskbar and Start menu, StartAllBack (paid). If you only want a transparent taskbar that changes when windows open or maximize, TranslucentTB is still the simplest choice; nothing else here has its per-state dynamic modes.

What people search for
Search interest gives a sense of scale. Windhawk is a whole mod platform, so its brand term is bigger than TranslucentTB's; StartAllBack and the generic "transparent taskbar" queries are much smaller.

TranslucentTB vs Windhawk (Windows 11 Taskbar Styler)
Choose Windhawk if
- You want to restyle more than the background: icon spacing, rounded corners, the clock, Start button.
- You like editing styles, or using a community theme.
- You already use other Windhawk mods.
Choose TranslucentTB if
- You want a look that changes when a window opens or maximizes, or Start opens.
- You want per-app looks (rules by process, class or title).
- You want a tray menu and a color picker, not style code.
Don't run both on the taskbar background at the same time. Users report crashes and the "XAML Diagnostics" error with Taskbar Styler running (#1195), and a 2026-10-22 test saw TranslucentTB 2026.2 crash on launch while Taskbar Styler 1.10 was active. Both work by hooking the XAML taskbar inside Explorer. Full comparison, including what each can change and how to switch: Windhawk vs TranslucentTB.
TranslucentTB vs TaskbarX
TaskbarX was popular for centering taskbar icons on Windows 10 and added its own transparency styles. Windows 11 centers icons natively, and TaskbarX's last release is 1.7.8.0 from October 2022, reported broken on Windows 11 builds after 22621.1265. On Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 use TranslucentTB (or Windhawk) instead. On Windows 10, TranslucentTB covers the transparency part; TaskbarX was mainly about icon position. We ran TaskbarX on Windows build 26100 and its transparent style changed nothing: see TaskbarX vs TranslucentTB.
TranslucentTB vs StartAllBack
StartAllBack replaces the Windows 11 taskbar and Start menu with a classic design and includes its own transparency and blur options. It's paid, well maintained (3.9.26 added 26H2 support) and conflicts with TranslucentTB (#1150, #1034). If you buy StartAllBack, use its transparency and uninstall TranslucentTB.
ExplorerPatcher with TranslucentTB
ExplorerPatcher isn't an alternative so much as a companion: it brings back the Windows 10 taskbar, and TranslucentTB officially supports it. With ExplorerPatcher's taskbar, TranslucentTB uses its Windows 10 method, gets the Show Desktop button option back, but loses blur on 22H2 and later because Windows removed that effect. Details: Windows 11 guide.
RoundedTB and Mica For Everyone
- RoundedTB changes the taskbar's shape (rounded, floating, split into segments), not its material. TranslucentTB's README lists it as compatible, so you can combine them. Its last release, R3.1, is from November 2021.
- Mica For Everyone applies Windows 11's Mica and acrylic backdrops to app windows. It doesn't touch the taskbar, so it complements TranslucentTB rather than replacing it.
What about Windows' own settings?
Windows 10 and 11 only offer Transparency effects (Settings › Personalization › Colors), which makes the taskbar slightly see-through with Windows' tint. There is no built-in clear, colored or adjustable-blur taskbar. See the Windows 11 guide.
